If might is right, then love has no place in the world. It may be so, it may be so. But I don’t have the strength to live in a world like that.

‘The Mission’, one of the truly great films of our time!
Yes, a great movie! Sadly, too few Americans appreciate the setting, Paraguay, or know anything about the history of this magnificent little nation. Which includes the Jesuit missions. And that fascinating person, Jose Gaspar Rodriquez de Francia, dictator for life (1-man absolute dictator from 1814-1840). Anyone wanting a nice overview would do well to read Harris Gaylord Warren’s Paraguay, An Informal History (Univ. of Oklahoma Press, 1949). You might just find a copy at your local library, though mine is a withdrawal from an Oxnard CA public library.
