     Well, perhaps Californian airheads? Better? Eastern state Americans joke about the Californians, the French about the Belgians and blonde secretaries. We English go on about the Irish even if we like and respect them. The joke has obviously gone flat on you, but not all my readers.

     I suspect that the launching ramp, so beautifully engineered with mooring for the launched boats for the time it takes to park the car and trailer, would have been somewhere in the USA. We rarely have such fine facilities in Europe. Why the car went into the water in front of trailer is a mystery to me. Perhaps the driver wanted to manoeuvre on the ramp prior to reversing down and the weight and inertia of his boat pushed the car down. A rope is attached to the back of the trailer, presumably for a vehicle to haul both trailer and car back up the ramp.

     The situation appeals to the sense of absurdity, which is the essential of humour, the idea that a dimwit would think that proper launching of a boat involved the car pulling the trailer into the water rather than backing down and floating the boat off the back of the trailer. This type of humour is usually associated with Belgians, Irish, Californians, etc. and implies no racial slur, at least not as far as I am concerned. I know many Irish who tell Irish jokes about themselves!
